No one should have to wait for the help they need...

Since 1984, Orygen has been leading a revolution in youth mental health. From research innovation, policy, and education through to clinical care, we’re revolutionising the way young people are treated.

Most mental health disorders begin between the early teens to the mid-20s, a critical time in the transition to adulthood. Poor mental health can disrupt family life and friendships, limit education and employment opportunities, and impact the wider community.

Almost half of all young people with serious mental ill-health never finish high school, and the economic burden of mental health is more than $10 billion each year.

Mood (depression) and anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenges facing young people today, while suicide is the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15 to 44.

We're encouraged to speak up and seek help, but often it can be hard to access the right help at the right time. Waiting lists can be long, and some people fall into the “missing middle” – a term used to describe those who are too unwell for primary care, but not unwell enough for more intensive mental health care.

Orygen believes in treating early and focussing on recovery. We know that this delivers the best outcome for young people, their families, and society.

We’re committed to closing the gap between the need and the help available by creating integrated services that work, so no cry for help is ever overlooked.

Real change is possible. Your gift will make a life-altering difference to the lives of young people living with mental ill-health. Together, we can revolutionise youth mental health.
