Why take part

2 in 5 young Australians are currently impacted by mental health challenges. We need to find new solutions and take immediate action. This is why we urgently need your support.

The James Marcon Committee
is committed to ensuring young people can access art therapy programs, across five headspace centres in North-West Melbourne. Art therapy programs are crucial for supporting creativity and social connection, and provide a different avenue for young people to access support, beyond one-to-one psychological therapy.

In memory of James Marcon, walk with us to support our vision for all young people to enjoy optimal mental health as they grow into adulthood. Band together with your friends, family, or colleagues to create a team, or sign up as an individual to make a real difference in the lives of young people and their families by supporting Orygen headspace art therapy programs.

James completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Monash University. He volunteered with St John’s Ambulance, and even travelled to Nepal, volunteering at the Namaste Children’s House Orphanage.

His adventures were numerous – bungee jumping off cliffs in Pokhara, Nepal, going on safari in Thailand and travelling across Europe and Asia. James connected with family in the North and South of Italy, while visiting several countries such as Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Nepal.

Unfortunately, by 2010 he began to suffer from depression and other mental health challenges – conditions which are significantly affecting 2 in 5 young people in Australia today.

James was only 22 years old when we lost him to suicide on December 28th 2012. A heart-breaking realisation - mental health challenges have no boundaries. They do not discriminate against age, sex, intellect, financial, or social status. They can affect anyone, at any time.

Before his passing, James wrote a proposal in order to help other young people affected by mental health difficulties. James welcomed art therapy during his treatment, and hoped promoting art therapy may also help other young people through their recovery.

With James' proposal in view, we endeavour to raise much needed funds to support headspace art therapy programs, helping young people affected by mental health difficulties.

All funds raised will be donated directly to headspace art programs in Werribee, Craigieburn, Glenroy, Melton and Sunshine, as well as art and music programs in the Parkville area.

Thank you so much for supporting youth mental health and carrying James' legacy.
